As winter sets in, reeds enter a dormant phase, gradually losing their green hue.
Even during the coldest months, when temperatures plummet, these systems continue to operate efficiently.
Though less active than in summer, the roots of the reeds still provide a suitable habitat for the microorganisms essential to breaking down pollutants.
The system’s design is also crucial: the substrate, typically composed of gravel and sand, promotes water circulation and prevents freezing. This ensures continuous water treatment, even in extremely low or sub-zero temperatures.
